EMDR

WHAT IS IT?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.  It is an experiential, skill-based type of therapy. EMDR is also an evidence-based tool for the treatment of current and past traumas, old wounds and current anxiety, grief and other issues. The fact that it’s evidence-based means that there have been lots of studies done on its effectiveness.  It really works!

Some of the issues that EMDR can treat include:

  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

  • Trauma (old and new)

  • Anxiety

  • Complicated Grief

  • Depression

  • Eating Disorders

  • OCD

  • Panic Disorders

  • Phobias

EMDR incorporates eye movement to help process memories and experiences that are stored in one’s mind and body undigested.  By coupling eye movement with the explorations of unresolved issues, our adaptive information processing network facilitates natural healing.  Just like when we break a bone, our body knows how to heal the break.  Our minds also know how to heal emotional wounds once roadblocks or barriers are removed.  EMDR helps to remove the roadblocks to healing.
